About Us

Letter from the Dean

I am delighted to welcome you to University College. University College was established in 1997 as a gateway for entering IUPUI students to provide advising, first-year seminars, career services, and other forms of support to ensure that students move into their majors as efficiently as possible. All new and transferring students are welcome here, and I encourage you to participate in the University College Student Council and to take advantage of our peer mentoring programs, academic advising, and career counseling services.

IUPUI—through the faculty who teach you, the advisors who guide you, and the peer mentors and friends who support you—can help you to discover and to explore possibilities that are currently unseen. I encourage you to take advantage of every opportunity and to become deeply involved in your education. Seek out opportunities to pursue undergraduate research and plan to participate in study abroad to experience life in a different part of the world. As research has shown that students who work on campus while attending college perform better than students who do not, I encourage you to seek out opportunities for on-campus employment through our Office of Student Employment on the third floor of Taylor Hall. Plan now to take advantage of our two summer sessions, during which you can continue your work on campus through our flexible summer work programs. Taking summer classes can help you to complete your degree requirements more efficiently, as well as give you an opportunity to enjoy the many festivals and concerts that take place in Indianapolis during the summer.

Please explore the University College website to find out more about what we do, and don’t hesitate to let me know if you have further questions—my office is on the third floor of Taylor hall, and I’m always happy to meet with you and to talk with you about your experiences at IUPUI.

David J. Malik, Ph.D.

Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education and Dean of University College
