Indianapolis, IN (May 2010) — Angela Carlen, Coordinator of Experiential Learning for
Academic and Career Development, University College, received three grant awards during the month
of April: GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender) grant to purchase diversity-related materials for
career library; PRAC (Program Review and Assessment Committee) grant to assess the IUPUI
Externship Program; and CDPI (Career Development Professionals of Indiana) professional
development award.

Indianapolis, IN (April 2009) – Gayle Williams, Assistant Dean of University
College, was a member of the founding administrative team for University College and
has helped take IUPUI/University College to the cutting edge in first-year student
support. Williams’ dedication to the success of first-year students and achievements in
making University College a gateway for new students entering IUPUI has earned her
national recognition with an Outstanding First-Year Student Advocate Award from the
National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition
(“The Center”).

Indianapolis, IN (April 2009) – On Sunday, April 19, at 3:00 p.m. IUPUI University
College will hold its annual Honors Ceremony at the Scottish Rite Cathedral. Freshmen student
scholars will pledge into the academic honor societies of Alpha Lambda Delta, Phi Eta Sigma,
and Alpha Sigma Lambda. Altogether 302 students will be honored from the following groups:
Alpha Lambda Delta, Phi Eta Sigma, Alpha Sigma Lambda, Bepko Scholars, Chancellor’s
Scholars and honorable mentions, Herbert Presidential Scholars, Honors Scholars, and Plater
Distinguished Scholars.

Indianapolis, IN (February 2009)—This year marks the tenth anniversary of
University College at IUPUI. On February 25, 2009, the 10th Anniversary Celebration will take
place on all three floors of Taylor Hall on the IUPUI campus. Dr. Eugene White, superintendent
of Indianapolis Public Schools, will give the keynote address.

Indianapolis, IN (February 2009) — IUPUI University College was among the winners
of the 2008 MarCom awards. The college was included in the 18 percent of the total entries
which were awarded the Platinum Award, the top honor that MarCom awards.

Indianapolis, IN (January 2008)—Three University College staff members were
recently inducted as Honorary members into Golden Key International Honour Society. The
Honorary members from University College are Harriett Bennett, Assistant Dean, University
College; Lynn Trapp, Manager, Office of Development, Operations, and Employee Relations;
and Regina Turner, Associate Professor, School of Liberal Arts. The members of Golden Key
are allowed to induct five Honorary members per academic year into their local chapter. These
Honorary members were nominated by an existing Golden Key member because of their
dedication to the students of University College and IUPUI.

Indianapolis, IN (October 2007) – Indianapolis University-Purdue University Indianapolis is hosting the 12th Annual National Learning Communities Conference from November 7-9, 2007 at the University Place Conference Center and Hotel. The theme is “Students at the Center.”

Indianapolis, Indiana (May 2007)— University College graduated three students this spring
who participated in the Nina Mason Pulliam Legacy Scholars Program, named for
newspaper benefactress Nina Mason Pulliam.
The Nina Scholars Program provides a unique opportunity for eligible students to
obtain the academic and financial resources and support needed to successfully complete
their college education.

Indianapolis, Indiana (April 2007)--- Beginning with the fall 2007 semester, University
College will put a greater emphasis on the importance of integrating diversity and
multicultural components into its learning community classes. The 11th Annual
University College Learning Communities Colloquium will take place May 11, 2007
from 9:00am–3:30pm on campus in Lecture Hall 102 for members of all learning
community instructional teams. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss methods
for effectively infusing the curriculum with multicultural components.

Indianapolis, Indiana (March 2007)— University College is pleased to announce that 35
University College mentors will be honored as among IUPUI’s Top 100 Students during
an awards ceremony at the Indianapolis Marriott Hotel on March 30, 2007.
“Our mentors who were named to the top 100 are definitely up there with the top
students we have at IUPUI,” says Mark Minglin, director of the Learning Center. “They
know what it takes to be successful, and it really shows in the commitment they have for
their jobs and student organizations. That’s why they’re top one hundred.”
