INDIANAPOLIS, IN (May 2011) –IUPUI University College would like to acknowledge Linzi Moore as one of the 2011 IUPUI Chancellor’s Honorable Mention recipients. Moore is a sophomore pre-nursing major maintaining a 3.9 grade point average. Besides being a full-time student, Moore is also a volunteer at her local hospital in Rushville, IN, and a part-time worker within her community. When she heard that she was being considered as a recipient for the Chancellor’s Honorable Mention award, Moore felt a sense of fulfillment. “It’s good to know that all my hard work that I put in my studies is paying off.”
Indianapolis, IN (April 2011) – The Council on Retention and Graduation and the Enrollment Management Council will meet at the IUPUI Informatics and Communications Technology Complex (IT) Building on Friday, April 15, at 8:30 a.m. to construct an IUPUI response to the Indiana University academic Roadmap initiative.
The building housing IUPUI’s University College has been named for Joseph T. Taylor in honor of the man who served as dean of the Indianapolis Regional Campus from 1967 to 1970 (pre-IUPUI) and as the first dean of the newly established IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI (1970-1978).
Indianapolis, IN (March 2011) – On Sunday, March 27, at 3:00 p.m. IUPUI University College will hold its annual Honors Ceremony at the Scottish Rite Cathedral. Over 475 freshman student scholars will pledge into the academic honor societies of Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma. The Chancellor’s Scholar, Lauren Hedlund, and Honorable Mentions will also be recognized.
Indianapolis, IN (February 2011)—IUPUI University College would like to acknowledge Oaksoon Callahan as the 2011 recipient of The First-Year Experience Undergraduate Student Fellowship Award at the 30th Annual Conference on the First-Year Experience. For the past year Callahan was the President of the University College Student Council which focuses on promoting events that support incoming freshman.
Indianapolis, IN (January 2011) —IUPUI University College is proud to recognize David J. Sabol as the first recipient of the Excellence in Teaching First-Year Seminars Award. Sabol is a Senior Lecturer, Department of English and University College; Academic Coordinator for Learning Communities, University College; Co-Director, IUPUI Summer Bridge Program; and University College Coordinator, IUPUI Summer Success Academy.
Indianapolis, IN (November 2010) – University College is proud to recognize Charlie Johnson, Director of Scholar Support Programs, for his recent publication. Johnson wrote one of the chapters in the following book published this year: Invisibility Factor: Administrators and Faculty Reach Out to First Generation College Students. The chapter, “The Nine Needs of Lower-Income, First-Generation College Students,” draws from Johnson’s interdisciplinary study of the unique needs of students who come from lower-income backgrounds and students who are the first in their family to attend college.
Indianapolis, IN (October 2010) – The IUPUI Council on Retention and Graduation and the IUPUI Enrollment Management Council met recently in a joint summit at the Indianapolis Marion County Public Library to begin collaborating on incentives to increase IUPUI student retention and graduation.
Indianapolis, IN (September 2010) – IUPUI’s Student Support Services program was approved by the U.S. Department of Education, and effective September 1, 2010, was funded again for the next five years.
Indianapolis, IN (September 2010) – The IUPUI Council on Retention and Graduation is hosting a joint summit with the IUPUI Enrollment Management Council to establish goals and directives. The summit will be held on Friday, October 8, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.at the Indianapolis Marion County Public Library in downtown Indianapolis. The two councils will develop priorities to help students persist in their studies as they move from the first year of college into the second year.
