Welcome High School Students

The Special Programs for Academic Nurturing (SPAN) at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) is an early college entrance program that allows high school students to enroll in actual college courses alongside regular college students. Established in 1984 to let academically-motivated teens take college classes, SPAN now offers talented, high school students of all grade levels the opportunity to get an early start on their college education or take courses that are not available at their high schools.

SPAN has three early college entrance opportunities: the Running Start Program, for 9th and 10th graders; the UpperClass Program, for high school juniors and seniors; and the CyberTEENs Program for technologically- gifted high school students. Acceptance is based upon academic motivation and ability, years completed in high school, and academic success.

Classes are offered mornings, during late afternoons, and evenings and at multiple locations around the Indianapolis area. Saturday only classes are another choice.  Also, there are two six-week summer semesters in addition to the traditional fall and spring semesters. With IUPUI’s flexible course schedule you have the ability to design an early college experience that fits your educational requirements.

• Earn credits for both high school and college at the same time (see the statewide Post-secondary
  Enrollment Program under "High School Diploma").
• Graduate early from high school and/or college.
• Get noticed by colleges and graduate schools.
• Meet one-on-one with a university counselor to discuss your academic future.
• Explore 100- and 200-level college courses.
• Get to know other students interested in your particular career field.
• Interact with knowledgeable faculty with world-class credentials.
• Earn FULL COLLEGE CREDIT from IU and/or Purdue through an early college program that has enjoyed a 100% credit transfer rate to colleges and universities across the nation and around the world.
