The IUPUI Upward Bound Program Mentoring Program meets monthly after school at Warren Central High School. The sessions are lead by Kimberly Stewart-Brinston Director of Multi-cultural Outreach at IUPUI. Current IUPUI students serve as mentors and lead the students in college prep workshops. After the workshops the students have group dialogue with the mentors. J.P. Smith, the IUPUI Upward Bound Liaison at Warren Central High School also provides leadership to the Mentoring Program. The mentors keep journals documenting their dialogue with the students. Current college students are used for mentoring in order to share first-hand college experiences with the high school-aged Upward Bounders.

Senior Success Seminar Session 1
October 13, 2007
During the first Senior Success Seminar (SSS) session the Upward Bound class of 2008 graduating seniors were give a portfolio of resources that will navigate them through their entire academic year in preparation for college. The resources will be used at each SSS session throughout the year. Mrs. Commissiong will be meeting with the seniors and their parents during most of the SSS sessions to ensure that UB students are on track for a successful high school graduation and ready for the college-going process. Topics discussed during this meeting included valuable information regarding the Groups Student Support Services program and the Bridge Program, both post graduation educational opportunities available to our students. Future topics will include financial aid assistance, college entrance exam information, major and career exploration, and understanding the first-year college experience.

Fall Break College Visit

Fall Break College Tour
October 17-19, 2007
This year's Fall Break College Tour allowed our students to explore and learn more about 4 universities in Nashville, TN. The students visited Belmont University, a small, private Christian church strongly involved in the Nashville music industry; Vanderbilt University, private, research institution of about 6500 undergraduates; Tennessee State University, a public Historically Black College/University (HBCU); and Fisk University, a small, private HBCU with about 800 students. For our cultural activity we attended a guitar solo by renowned guitarist John Johns, Chair of Guitar at Vanderbilt's Blair School of Music. Overall, the students thoroughly enjoyed the visit to these universities- some of our students completed admissions applications to some of schools during our visit.
