Students tell why they participate in Upward Bound

• I’m here to make sure that I do all the things that most of my family didn’t get to do when they were my age. I want to get a degree and make my parents proud of me. I want to be proud of my self.
• I am here to have a good learning experience. I expect to leave with a better understanding of college and as a better person.
• I am here to get the college experience beforehand. I don’t want to go to college clueless and not have the knowledge I need to do well. I also want to make friends, gain better study habits, and gain more knowledge. Honestly, I wanted to come here so it could give me more support and determination to graduate college because no one in my family has ever graduated from college.
• I am here to gain knowledge and understanding of how college is going will be. I want to leave here and be successful.
• I am here to have fun, to meet new people, improve my education, and help me reach my goals. I will leave here with a thorough knowledge of college life and knowledge about things I didn’t know.
• This summer I’m here to better myself in areas where I don’t get the help at home (regular school). I’m also here to finish something I started summers ago because education is part of being a successful person. If I’m not educated now, where then, will I gain the skills I need in order to succeed? Also, to stay off of the streets and out of trouble during the summer! Besides, this program is my foot in the door for college and I’m here to get my head on right and prepare myself for my senior year in high school and freshman year in college!
