YOUR FIRST WEEKS AT IUPUI: EXPLORE
Major and career exploration
Welcome to college. Now that you have enrolled in classes and figured out where to park and where to eat, the question everyone will be asking you is, "What's your major?" If you are not sure or, if you know, but you are uncertain about what you are going to do with that major, the IUPUI Career Center is here to help you. Over 85% of all college students change their major at least once. The Career Center can help you identify majors and careers that best match your interests, abilities and values. There are a variety of tools you can use, and it all starts with a visit to the Career Center.
You can start by visiting with a Career Counselor to help you identify potential majors and careers that best fit your interests, skills, and values. A Career Counselor can also recommend you for an assessment designed to help you clarify your personal preferences or interests and how they relate to different career fields.
You can also check out the brand new resources in the Career Resource Library , or perhaps a workshop would best suit your needs. The "Choosing a Major and Career Workshop" is designed to help students gain a clearer picture about their future by learning more about themselves. For self-starters, STEP Ahead to Your Future: A guide for choosing majors and careers is an easy to follow workbook designed to walk students through four steps, Self-Focus, Target, Explore, and Plan, to help you in your academic and career search.
If you have questions about your major or career field, or if you are not sure about what you want to do, visit the IUPUI Career Center in the Business/SPEA Building in Room 2010, or make an appointment by calling 317-274-2554. You can also visit the Career Center online at http://www.career.iupui.edu and click on the "Choosing a Major" and "What Can I Do With My Major" tabs for more information.
