FAQ

OTEAM 2009

OTEAM is a strategic scholarship developed to allow students to serve the University and incoming students, develop life-long skills in leadership and solidarity, and to feel a stronger connection to the University.  Scholarship applicants may choose to serve for the Summer and Fall terms as an Orientation Leader and First Year Seminar Mentor, or select just the Fall Mentoring option.

Leading Orientation:

The interactive orientation day is facilitated by the positive, fun, and knowledgeable OTEAM.  The role of an orientation leader is to assist new and transfer students along with their guest(s) through the orientation day.  Leaders help students acquire their JagTag, verify their technology account, explore campus, create their class schedule, register for classes, and most importantly, connect to campus.  Leaders share campus experience in an exciting and helpful manner.

During the summer, orientation leaders must:

  • Work along side the Directors, Coordinators, and other leaders in successful operations of the New Student, Transfer, and Parent Orientation Programs
  • Actively lead groups of students through the orientation day
  • Attend all training programs during your scholarship term
  • Be able to dedicate an average of 36 to 40 hours per week
  • Participate in all scholarship-related training, meetings, and experiences
  • Continue during the following Fall semester as a First Year Seminar Mentor

Mentoring First Year Seminars:

First Year Seminar mentors are members of the course instructional team, which consists of a faculty member, an advisor, a librarian, and a student mentor.  The mentor's role is to present themselves as a model student.  The mentor helps introduce students to resources, expectations, successful academic habits, and the campus community.  During the fall semester, mentors must:

  • Be able to commit an average of 5 hours per week to the First Year Seminar Course (including time within the First Year Seminar class)
  • Actively present and participate in the First Year Seminar course
  • Attend all training programs during your scholarship term
  • Participate in all scholarship related activities and meetings
  • Enroll and successfully complete the one-credit UCOL mentoring course

Pre-Application Requirements:

To be considered for OTEAM 2009, applicants must have:

  • A cumulative and Fall 2008 semester GPA of 2.800 or greater
  • Have completed no less than 12 IUPUI credit hours
  • Plan to enroll full time in the Fall 2009 semester at IUPUI
