Faculty & Staff: Research & Assessment: Entering Student Survey

For the past several years, IUPUI has employed a variety of methods and instruments to collect information from entering students about their backgrounds, expectations for, and attitudes toward college. The information collected from incoming students can be particularly useful for understanding and responding to the needs expressed by beginning freshmen. Based on previous reports, a number of data-driven changes have been implemented. Many first-year programs (e.g., Summer Academy “Bridge,” New Student Orientation, First-Year Seminars, Themed Learning Communities, Advising Services) have implemented components designed to help align incoming students’ expectations with the demands of college. Thus, reports based on the Entering Student Surveys are utilized in an effort to continue to improve students’ academic success levels at IUPUI.
