Students: Life Beyond Classes: Affording College
The more hours that a student works for pay, the less likely she or he is to complete a college degree. This doesn’t mean you can’t work and go to school; it means that you should be judicious about the number of hours you obligate yourself to work while you are earning your college degree. You can find specific information about ways to afford college below.
IUPUI's Paying for College homepage
IUPUI provides the maximum return for your dollar. Reasonable tuition and fees in combination with a financial aid program make IUPUI an affordable college choice.

Work-Study Jobs
The Federal Work-Study Program was established by Congress as part of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. Its purpose is to promote part-time employment for students with financial need and to help students in meeting their educational costs, provide relevant work experience, and to build relationships between IUPUI and the Indianapolis community.
A Federal Work-Study award is packaged as part of the student's financial aid and is awarded through the IUPUI Office of Student Financial Aid Services (OSFAS).

The Nina Scholars Program
In its eighth year, the Nina Mason Pulliam Legacy Scholars program promotes and develops the success of students who face some of the most significant barriers in education and in life. In addition to financial support, interventions include proactive, academic-focused mentoring; meetings and workshops focused on academic success, career development, and personal growth; community-service; and engagement in the university through the Nina Scholars community.
The Nina Scholars program is currently available to students at IUPUI, Ivy Tech State College, Maricopa Community College in Arizona, and Arizona State University. This program provides a unique opportunity for students from underserved backgrounds to obtain the resources and financial support needed in order to successfully complete a college education. This program covers full tuition, fees and books, and includes a $2,750 annual living allowance and laptop computer. A cohort of 10 students is selected each year as scholarship recipients.
The Nina Scholars program serves students who must meet one of the following criteria: a returning student who is 25 years of age or older who has dependents in the family unit; a college-age youth or adult with physical disabilities; or an incoming freshman between the ages of 18–25 who has been raised in the child welfare system and has no form of financial support.
Contact Charlie Johnson, program advisor, (317) 278-7878 or nina@iupui.edu for more information and/or to request an application.
